The End of Things
January 29, February 12 and 19
Rev. Dr. David Lawrence

In the middle of the 20th century, the great theologian Reinhold Niebuhr wrote  “it is unwise for Christians to claim any knowledge of either the furniture of heaven or the temperature of hell; or to be too certain about any details of the kingdom of God in which history is consummated.”

In this class, however, we will discuss several matters related to “the end of things.”  What is heaven?  What is hell? Who is going where? If Jesus is “the only way,” what happens to those who have not been introduced to him?   Do the gospel writers’ portrayals of Jesus offer help in figuring out what happens at the end of
things?   Are Biblical books like Revelation any real help in under-standing the end of things?   What will the revealed kingdom of God be like?

After serving churches in LaFayette, New York and East Hanover and Whippany, New Jersey, Dr. Lawrence was Parish Associate for Pastoral Psychotherapy at The Presbyterian Church in Morristown for 25 years. He retired after 40+ years in ministry in 2009.  He still preaches and teaches regularly, and serves as Adjunct Faculty in the Doctor of Ministry program at Drew University Theological School.
