BOARD OF DEACONS

Easter Lily Distribution

• Help distribute Easter lilies after the second service on Easter Sunday to designated individuals who are unable to attend services.

Prayer Chain

• Become a link in our church's e-mail prayer chain and pray for the many concerns of our members, their families and friends, our church and community.

Samaritans

• Provide transportation to a medical appointment, fix a meal, or help with shopping, in response to specific needs of individual church members.

Spring Hill Assisted Living Worship Servic
e

• Help lead a Sunday worship service for residents of a local assisted living facility. Our congregation is responsible for services in February, June and October.



BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS COMMITTEE


AAA Men's Group

• Join retired men on Wednesday mornings to do carpentry, electrical, plumbing and general handyman work on all church buildings.

Adopt A Plot in the Burying Ground

• Individuals or families adopt a specific section of the historic burying ground and take responsibility for trimming around gravestones and keeping the plot in good condition.

Burying Ground Restoration

• Work one Saturday a month cleaning, repositioning and putting together damaged tombstones - training provided.

Gardening (Seasonal)


• Help plant annual flowers in Church and Parish House planters and in the courtyard between the Church and the Chapel.
• Maintain plantings, weed and water during the growing season.

Gardens and Ground Group - G THREE

• Improve and maintain landscaping at the church.
• Plant flowers, weed beds, prune and install plants.
• Install hardscape (walls, paving, etc.).

Memorial Garden


• Help maintain the Memorial Garden in coordination with the Memorial Garden Administration Committee.

Spring and Fall Cleanups on a Saturday Morning

• Outdoors: Clean up Church grounds, prune shrubbery, weed, rake, etc., as needed.
• Indoors: Do touch-up painting, repairs, etc., as needed.



CHRISTIAN EDUCATION COMMITTEE


Adult Education

• Assist in planning and implementation (2-year term.)

Church School Volunteers

• Many hands help the church school and the youth programs to run smoothly in order to help our young people grow in faith. Whether you share your faith as a teacher or assist in preparing in arts and crafts materials in your spare time; whether you can invest several weeks or a couple of hours we have a task to fit into your availability. If you would like to work with or for church school and youth programs, contact Beth Fenske for specific details.


Christian Education Committee

• Become a member of this Session Committee, planning and implementing all Christian Education programs, church school, adult education, nursery school, etc.


Library Committee (Both Libraries in Narthex and Parish House)


• Be one of 8-10 volunteers on a rotating schedule to work at the Library Table in Narthex on Sunday morning between services.
• Assist in the organization and maintenance of children's reading room at the Parish House.


Nursery School (Monday-Friday, September-June)

• "Community representatives" for Nursery School Advisory Committee (e.g. Iawyer, teacher, nurse, doctor, dentist, etc.) to attend monthly meetings.
• Adults to help with administrative work one morning per week, including answering the phone, activity preparations, record keeping, etc.
• Adults for rotating schedule to help with approximately weekly "extended days" programs (morning through lunch or lunch into afternoon).
• Help with updating the library.

• Adults/older youth to start at the Parish House with the group and walk with them to the Sanctuary.
• Adults/older youth to meet the parade at the Church and direct the group into the Sanctuary.

• Set up at Parish House.
• Set up at Sanctuary (primarily blow up balloons on Saturday).
• Clean up at Parish House.



COMMUNITY AND FELLOWSHIP COMMITTEE


All-church Picnic on the first or second Sunday in June in the Parish House parking lot.

• Shop for needed supplies (paper goods, munchies, soda, etc.).
• Help set up tables, chairs, and tents.
• Set up, serve, clean up food (catered lunch, homemade desserts).
• Lead children's activities such as face painting, balloon toss, circle games.
• Make phone calls to recruit workers.

Christmas Carol Sing and Potluck
on the first Sunday in December
• Help set up or clean up.
• Make phone calls to coordinate work crew.

Fellowship Hour
• Host the Fellowship Hour between services or after a single service.

Parish Sages Luncheons

• Help prepare and serve the lunch for a gathering of the Parish Sages, on the third Friday of the month in the spring and fall.
• Help set up or clean up after luncheon.



EVANGELISM COMMITTEE

Advertising

• Help develop and produce display ads in local newspapers publicizing church services and events in an attractive and consistent manner.

Greeters

• Greet at the entrance to the Church prior to the Sunday services.
• Help recruit Sunday morning greeters.

Invitation Committee

• Record Visitor's Card information.
• Contact recent visitors to Sunday worship services to welcome them and invite them into church life and membership.

Sanctuary Pew Pockets

• Prepare the sanctuary each week for worship, including restocking the Visitor's Cards and Tri-fold Information Sheets.



FINANCE COMMITTEE


Church Endowment

• Participate in the endowment review process
• Make suggestions to investment advisor

Cobb Scholarship Committee

• Review applications.
• Contact recipient.

Commemoratives

• Develop and maintain a list of items to be purchased as memorials.
• Determine the appropriateness of memorials.
• Request a list of appropriate memorials from Session committees.
• Update memorials book.
• Inform congregation in Tower Tidings of those memorialized and items purchased.
• Publicize the fund in Tower Tidings.

Finance Committee

• Serve as a full member of the Finance Committee.


Strategic Planning


• Assess church's short and long term financial condition
• Develop strategies to enhance financial status
• Implement financially prudent tactics
• Analyze the results of strategies & tactics



MANAGEMENT AND ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE

Historical Artifacts

• Catalogue and restore written records and photographs that help to document our church's long and rich history.


M&A Committee

• Serve a limited term as a lay member of the committee.

Receptions

• Make finger foods and cookies for staff special receptions.
• Help set up and/or clean up for receptions.
• Help serve at receptions.


Staff Recognition Lunch

• Help prepare, serve and clean up.


Technology Committee

• Help advise the Church staff on both hardware and software needs.
• Assist in staff computer training and troubleshooting.



MEMBER INVOLVEMENT COMMITTEE

Church Directory

• Assist in the preparation of the annual Church Membership Directory (summer/fall).

Display Cases

• Assist in coordinating displays in the cases in the Tower entrance.

New Member Receptions
• Provide a tray of sandwiches or a dessert, and/or help set up, serve and clean up for luncheons at which new members are received and welcomed.


Transportation

• Join a group of members who provide rides to and from worship for members who need transportation.


Visitation Committee

• Contact church members annually and relay any issues or concerns to the Minister and/or Community and Discipleship Committee.



OUTREACH COMMITTEE

Clothing Bank

• Help sort and distribute clothes during the Clothing Bank hours on Tuesday mornings. Sign Up for one time or make a regular monthly commitment.

Community Soup Kitchen (based at Redeemer Episcopal Church, where our congregation provides the food and the servers one-day each month).

• in your own kitchen, cook a one-dish meal to serve 30 people. Recipes and instructions provided. Transport the casseroles to the Soup Kitchen just before lunch for heating. Alternate transportation can be arranged.

• Work in the kitchen and serve the meal.


Food Drives in November and May

• Help sort and transport food to the Interfaith Food Pantry, Market Street Mission and Salvation Army.


Martin Luther King Day Annual Community Breakfast

• Be a table host - welcome people as they arrive and help to facilitate discussion on the theme of the day.


One Great Hour of Sharing


• Share a Moment for Mission with the congregation during worship.


Operation Love/Christmas Star Tree (organized by the Church of God in Christ)


• Create labeled shapes to hang on the Narthex Christmas Tree to solicit gifts for our congregation's participation in Operation Love.
• Assemble food baskets and wrap presents during a December evening work session.
• Help deliver gift boxes on a Saturday morning before Christmas.


SCEEP

• Tutor an elementary school student from Newark on Tuesdays from 4:30-6:30. Commitment is for a full school year. Substitute tutors also are needed.
• Work as a famiiy or service group or with other individuals to prepare, serve and clean up dinner for SCEEP students and tutors. Commit to one or more Tuesdays.


Shoebox Ministry

• Help collect and deliver filled shoeboxes to children in Newark.



STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE

Awareness

• Ensure that congregation understands stewardship as a faith expression.
• Educate members, of all ages on the orientation of Stewardship
• Ensure that stewardship reflects the church's ministry mission in church at home, community, and globally.


Moment for Mission

• Ensure that stewardship focus represents a celebration of God's gifts to our members.

Strategic Planning

• Assess church's short and long term financial condition
• Develop strategies to enhance financial status
• Analyze the results of strategies & tactics


Mutch Society

• Acquaint donors with ways of designating their gifts.
• Coordinate the activities of the Society.
• Prepare literature to help communicate the Society's objectives.
• Handle inquiries, keep records.


WORSHIP AND MUSIC COMMITTEE

Communion Preparation


• Help prepare the Communion Table for the Sacrament of Holy Communion.


Holiday Decorations

• Help arrange Christmas and/or Easter plants and decorations in the Sanctuary.

Lay Reader Program

• Read scripture and/or lead responsive readings during a worship service - training provided.


Music Program


• Join one of the many adult or youth voice or handbell choirs.
• Support a musical event behind the scenes at special services throughout the year.

Music Publicity

• Spread the word about special events as part of the music event publicity team.


Special Receptions

• Help prepare food and beverages.
• Help serve at the reception table.
• Help clean up after receptions.


Sunday Child Care in Howard House


Help care for the youngest of our church family while parents worship.

Ushering

• Usher or be a head usher at worship services.

Wednesday luncheon


• Help prepare and serve the lunch following the Wednesday Noon Service in the Chapel. Cooks work in teams of two. Each team prepares one lunch per month.Substitute cooks also are needed..



YOUTH COMMITTEE


Chaperone/driver


• Be willing to get to know our 6th -12th grade members bctter.
• Chaperone and/or drive Youth to single-day or overnight events.
• Listen to what Youth have to say, and tell them what you think.

Confirmation Mentor


• Be willing to get to know our confirmands better (they are usually gth graders).
• Provide leadership and be a role model to one confirmand throughout the year.
• Participate alongside confirmands at the service projects that are a part of the Confirmation Class.
• Attend meetings and events scheduled with confilmands.
• Talk to and/or e-mail confirmand mentee weekly.


Cook (Individually, with your family, or in a group)


• Provide meals for Jr. and Sr. Highs at the Midweek program, usually Wednesdays at 5:30.
• Prepare and serve snacks or meals at special fellowship activities, including parties or lock-ins.
• Shop for food and materials.
• Clean up after snacks or meals.


Jr. High Advisor


• Be willing to get to know our 6th -8th grade members better.
• Listen to what Youth have to say, and share your life with them.
• Attend weekly meetings with Youth, usually Wednesdays 5:30-7:30.
• Chaperone single-day or overnight events.
• Drive Youth to events.
• Participate in planning meetings.


Koinonia Sr. High Advisor

• Be willing to get to know our 9th -12th grade members better.
• Listen to what Youth have to say, and share your life with them.
• Attend weekly meetings with Youth, usually Wednesdays 5:30 - 7:30.
• Chaperone single-day or ovemight events.
• Drive Youth to events.
• Participate in planning meetings.


Occasional MidWeek Fellowship Volunteer

• Be willing to get to know our Kindergarten - 12th grade members better.
• Supervise children in fellowship
• Come to one or more weekly MidWeek meetings on Wednesday afternoons.
• Event driver or event chaperone
• Cook rneals or preparing snacks
• Participate in craft, study or discussion activities with children or youth.
• Teaclling bible study
• Advise on single-day, weekend or week-long service projects


Sr.High Bible Study Teacher or Assistant

• Be willing to help our post-confirmation youth grow in their faith by teaching or assisting in a Sunday evening bible study in a casual atmosphere.
• Assist in selecting the bible study malerial.
• Develop the 4 to 6 week study in conjunction with support from the Youth Ministry committee and their staff liaisons.
• Lead study and discussion activities with this group of young people.


Work Project Advisor (For activities such as RISE, the Heifer Project, YSOP, etc.)

• Be willing to get to know our 6th -12th grade members better.
• Listen to what Youth have to say, and tell them what you think.
• Travel with Youth to project sites, driving if you are able and it's necessary
• Participate in fellowship activities with Youth throughout the trip.
• Work alongside Youth at project sites.
