IN THE CONGREGATION:

CIRCLE 12:  Reminder - Program change:
If you choose, bring a small memento of your heritage or a trip.

SANCTUARY TOUR MAY 18:  Join Clare Eckhard and other members of our congregation after the 11:00 a.m. service for a ½-hour tour of the Sanctuary to explore the symbols and pictures that adorn and illuminate our church.

OUR HISTORY ON DISPLAY:  Stop to see what's new in the display cases in the Tower Entrance!  Our church's history is on display in the first case.  Ever wonder just what our connection with George Washington was?  Come see some artifacts in anticipation of our 275th anniversary celebration!  Pictures and mementos from our first Arizona Mission Trip are on display in the second case.

A TOUR OF THE CEMETERY

Back by popular demand and for a limited time only (limited to about one half hour), Scott Shepherd will be conducting a tour of our church’s historic cemetery on May 25, after the single service of worship and the graveyard memorial service.  Scott has written extensively about our cemetery and is now considered the foremost authority on it.  As a result, these tours are always engaging and filled with fascinating insights.  We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to learn about the history of our church.

RECORDING OUR HISTORY:  For our archives, we would like to create a scrap book, containing all the publicity and pictures and memorabilia associated with our 275th anniversary celebration.  Would someone who likes to do scrap booking volunteer to undertake this important task?  If you are interested, please contact Barbara King.
Phone: (973) 292-4906; email: ourkingdom@optonline.net.

FLOWER MEMORIALS:  There are opportunities for flower memorials for September 14 and 28.  If you would like to honor someone or memorialize a loved one(s) with a donation of flowers to beautify the sanctuary for Sunday worship services, please call Jo Potter at the church office.

SAVE THE DATE:  TRIP TO OCEAN GROVE, August 17.  Mark your calendars for our 3rd annual trip to the Great Auditorium in Ocean Grove.  Tony Campolo is preaching.  More details to come!  Questions to Lew Bohn at lewbohn@optonline.net.

ANNIVERSARY NOTE PAPER FOR SALE IN MUTCH HALL:  In response to popular demand and in order to help defray the costs associated with our year-long 275th anniversary celebration, the 275th Anniversary Committee is selling notepaper depicting our Church on the Green and Chapel.  The cost of the notepaper is $5.00 per packet of ten, and may be purchased from a member of the Committee in Mutch Hall.

FINANCIAL PLANNING CLASS HELPS YOU AVOID COSTLY MISTAKES

The Stewardship Committee will sponsor a financial planning class, “Common and Costly Mistakes in Retirement,” on May 29, 4 - 6 p.m. in the Parlor at the Parish House.  Our speaker will be Pat Brennan of the Rutgers University Extension Service, who will discuss how to avoid nasty money mistakes and ensure that your money will last in retirement.  All are welcome to this free class, particularly those looking ahead to retirement or already retired.  Delicious Presbyterian refreshments will be served!
RSVP to the church office.

NEW PEW BIBLES  The Worship and Music Committee has begun an effort to replace the pew Bibles in the sanctuary with the New Revised Standard Version.  (The existing pew Bibles are old, worn and no longer the most scholastically accurate.)  Please consider purchasing a Bible for the church in memory or in honor of a special person.  Each Bible is $10.  Checks can be made payable to The Presbyterian Church in Morristown, noting “Bibles” in the memo line.  Order forms will be available in the Narthex on Sunday morning.  Or go to the church website (pcmorristown.org) for more information and a printable order form.  A book plate will be placed in the inside cover of the Bible(s) you purchase acknowledging your gift to the church. Please contact Caroline Godfrey at carolineckg@optonline.net with questions.

INQUIRER’S CLASSES, JUNE 2008:  Our next series of classes, designed to explore questions of faith and discipleship, is scheduled for Wednesdays, June 11 and 18, 2008, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. in the Parish House.  Attending classes does not commit you to join, but for those who decide to unite with this church community, there will be an additional meeting with representatives of the Session.  If you are interested in becoming a member of this congregation, or would like to explore these issues, please call Mary Jo Hashagen at (973) 538-1776 by Tuesday, May 26.

WEDNESDAY NOON SERVICES:  The Wednesday service of worship will be held in the Chapel at noon.  The service ends at 12:30 p.m., with lunch ($3.00) following.

FOR OUR CHILDREN AND YOUTH:

MRS. CHILDS IS RETIRING FROM CHILD CARE:  For more than twenty years, Mrs. Childs has served the congregation of the Presbyterian Church in Morristown by providing childcare during our church services.  Under her steady hand, two generations of little Presbyterians have been cared for while their parents worshiped or studied.  Mrs. Childs will be retiring from caring for our children at the Howard House and Parish House at the end of July.  If you would like to honor Mrs. Childs’ years of service with a contribution to a purse, please contact Rix Yard.  A reception is planned to celebrate Mrs. Childs after the worship service on June 29.

SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM will be celebrated on Sunday, July 20, at the 10:00 a.m. service of worship.  A series of baptism classes will be held on Sunday afternoons, June 8, June 22, and June 29, at 11:30 a.m. in the Parish House.  Parents presenting children are required to attend all 3 classes.  If you wish to have a child baptized on July 20, please contact Beth Fenske or Mary Jo Hashagen at the church office, (973) 538-1776, to register for the classes.

PCM MISSION COMPANY SHARES FOR SALE:  Our Senior Highs students will be selling shares of the PCM Mission Co. stock following both morning services throughout the month of May and the beginning of June.  Your donations are used to help with the expenses for 23 of our young people plus adults as they journey to upstate New York this summer with RISE to serve those with unsatisfactory living conditions.  Thank you!

CONFERENCE ON THE WORKER’S CENTER IN MORRISTOWN ~ On Wednesday, May 28, 7 p.m. in the Parish House, the Peace and Justice Group and Adult Education Committee will be holding a Conference on the Worker’s Center for the day laborers of Morristown.  This is a crucial issue in town; many in our congregation have been involved in the discussion, and everyone is invited to hear Stu Sendel, David Walker (Neighborhood House), Caryn Maxim (Grupo Cajolá) and others explain efforts and possible solutions.  There will be a time for questions come and have yours answered!

BULLETINS are available from the ushers and on the table near the Mutch Hall entrance.  LARGE PRINT BULLETINS AND HYMNALS are also available.  If you or someone you know would like one, please speak to an usher.  HEARING AID DEVICES:  All units operate well any place in the sanctuary.  Please see an usher if you would like to use one of these devices.  We ask that you turn them off when you return them to help extend battery life.  Thank you.

CHILD CARE DURING WORSHIP:  Infant and child care is provided during the service of worship in the Howard House (to your left as you exit the narthex of the sanctuary).  Ask any usher to assist you in locating the appropriate rooms.

PARENTS WORSHIPING WITH CHILDREN:  Materials for young worshipers are located in the drawers of our literature chests in both vestibules.  We look forward to having our children with us during worship.  A Children's Guide to Worship, located in the pew racks, may be helpful to parents.  Children's bulletins are in the top cabinet drawer of our literature racks in both vestibules.  Pockets, a Christian magazine, is available there also for young readers to take home.  Feel free to take your child out for a few minutes if he or she grows too restless or you may take him or her to our supervised childcare in Howard House.  (See above.)
