Fellowship Club
The American
Heritage College Dictionary defines "Fellowship" as "The
companionship of peers in a congenial atmosphere." Websters
defines Club as a group of people associated for a common
purpose or mutual advantage, usually in an organization that meets regularly.
This characterizes the atmosphere of a Fellowship Club evening. When
going out for an evening, most everyone likes to have fun, feel good,
and enjoy conversation and programs that are easy and light, e.g., No
Heavy Lifting. The Fellowship Club routinely provides this opportunity
to all adult singles or couples, and their friendsin pleasant
surroundings, with socializing amongst understanding persons having
shared values and mutual respect, followed by dining and an entertaining
program.
The Fellowship Club of the Presbyterian Church in Morristown is open
to all. It was started by Rev. Thomas Mutch, our senior pastor for some
36 years, to provide the means for church members, friends, and others
to socialize monthly for an evening in a friendly setting. A meal prepared
by a dinner committee, which rotated, enhanced the pleasure of the evening.
Initially, the group was called the Couples Club. Over the years, the
changing environment has transformed the group into a composition of
both single individuals and married couples, adapting by changing the
name to Fellowship Club. Now the dinner is contributed by
those taking part, but still served by a dinner committee.
All are welcome to a Fellowship Club gatheringChurch members,
visitors, friends, singles, couples, etc. Our gatherings are in the
Parish House, usually on the second Thursday evening of the month from
fall to spring. Gatherings consist of hospitality time, potluck dinner,
followed by a program on some topic. We strive for variety in the program
topics at Fellowship events. For this fall, the following programs are
being considered: Stand-Up Comedian, Collection of World War II Artifacts,
Christmas Theme for December, History of the Morristown Green.
