The Contemporary Service at the Presbyterian Church in Morristown is up and running every Sunday night at 5:30 P.M. in the Narthex of the Church-on-the-Green. Come join us in song, worship, and praise!
The service is designed in a Presbyterian order, but in a contemporary style. The service is led by the ministers from the Presbyterian Church in Morristown and features Contemporary Christian Music played by our worship band, led by Bridget Larson. God's message is delivered through the spoken word, as well as through visual media, music and other modes that encourage everyone to be part of the service.
We want you to feel comfortable here, whether you are a lifelong Christian, or used to be one, or never have been. Whether you are familiar with the contemporary style or not, we hope you find a connection with God through our service.
We offer childcare for pre-schoolers. Please let us know in advance at praise@pcmorristown.org if you would like to take advantage of this.
We are so excited to have the talents of Bridget Larson to lead our praise band! Bridget Larson has a diverse musical and performance art background. She studied both classical and contemporary voice extensively. Bridget toured England with a traditional Christian Repertoire that included a performance at Westminster Abbey. She has recorded for Sony Tree Publishing, Island Bound Music and Major Bob Publishing, and is the featured voice on radio jingles. Drama experience includes performing in various plays, commercials, films and music videos. She is an accomplished vocalist and lyricist and has been glorifying God with her songs for over a decade. Her passion for and call to leading worship has allowed her to work with Christian author and speaker, Karol Hess.

Frequently Asked Questions:
What is Contemporary Worship anyway? Contemporary worship (also called "alternative worship") can mean many different things. Our goal is to create a service for those who might have an affinity for more modern expressions of worship. The atmosphere is laid-back. The dress is casual. The music is modern. The setting is cozier, and more intimate. The worship itself is more upbeat. It is still a Christian service in the Reformed tradition, with communion and scripture reading; it is simply a different style of worshipping God and proclaiming His word!
What is "praise music"? Praise music is an integral part of our contemporary service. Praise music has a contemporary feel, with inspiring, yet simple lyrics. Our "praise band" is driven by piano, guitar and drums but can incorporate many different instruments. This music can be heard on popular Christian music radio stations and is personified by popular artists like Michael W. Smith. However, we hope to have an eclectic mix of genres at our service and hope to mix in elements of jazz, blues, acoustic, or anything else the Spirit moves us to include!
Why do you think Morristown is in need of such a new worship opportunity? Morristown is a growing, thriving community with a diverse group of residents. Many of these may be looking for a church service that reflects popular culture. Some may be familiar with contemporary services or praise music from other places they have lived. Some may not be comfortable with the formality and ritual they have experienced in more traditional services. We welcome all of these people to help shape our new worship experience!
Why do it at 5:30 P.M. on Sunday night? The 5:30 time accommodates those folks with busy Sunday morning schedules or who like a leisurely start on their day off, a time slot for worship that had not been previously available to them. This allows busy families an opportunity to worship together after a busy weekend before the kids go to bed, while allowing those who like to stay out later the opportunity for socializing afterwards.
