Congregational Care

The Board of Deacons works to envision, coordinate and network the congregational care provided to our church. The Deacons are church officers, who, along with the associate pastor, provide care as "shepherds of the sheep."  Each member of the church is assigned a Deacon.  The board coordinates the services of the Health Ministry, Stephen Ministry, Prayer Chain, Samaritans, the Clothing Bank and Presbyterian Women. For information, contact Pastor Alloway.

Each Deacon maintains ongoing relationships with one or two members of the congregation who are in need of special attention.  They visit concerns regularly, provide companionship, provide news of the church and assist them when needed.  Each Deacon is assigned a neighborhood group of members based on where he or she lives.  The Deacons schedule social gatherings to allow members to get to know each other in their neighborhoods.  Other duties include:

  • delivering flowers to concerns every week
  • assisting with Communion for shut-in members
  • coordinating worship services at Spring Hill Nursing Home
  • preparing Thanksgiving baskets for concerns
  • providing potted Easter lilies to concerns on Easter
  • offering informational programs on CARE
  • providing rides to and from church

Samaritans

Samaritans minister to those in our congregation who find they may need extra help. We try to fill all requests. No request is too big or small, too foolish or complicated.  Help with shopping, transportation, assistance with medical insurance forms, fixing meals, etc., are just some of the services we seek to provide. There is no charge to recipients for Samaritan services.  Please contact Sue or Jo in the church office (973-538-1776) for services.
