Assistance for Families in Newark
This program involves church members who donate food, supplies and money to families in central Newark at Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter and the start of the school year. In addition, children's clothes, toys and locally donated bakery bread are delivered weekly to families in need, battered women, a homeless shelter and/or a neighborhood Presbyterian church in Newark.
Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter
For more than 14 years, we have been providing holiday meals and baskets to Newark families for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. The number of families has grown to over two dozen because of generous donations from members of the congregation, friends and support from Presbyterian Women and Outreach. The ones who need it most are the children.
We encourage everyone to take advantage of holiday sales when thinking of our Newark families. If you wish to donate, just leave your items in the Parish House kitchen on the card table by the window, and mark them NEWARK. Many of you receive "free" hams or turkeys; frozen ones can be left in the PCM Parish House freezer and fresh ones in the refrigerator marked NEWARK. In addition to holiday fare, our families can use easy-to-fix-and-serve foods for all occasions. And don't forget those kid-favorites: small boxes of juice and cereal, pudding, jello and fruit cups.
Please bring your basket items to the PCM Parish House no later than three days prior to the holiday so we can have time to prepare and deliver the baskets.
Easter Baskets for Children - in addition to dinners, we provide children's baskets for which we seek donations and help with assembly
