Mrs. Wilson's

One of only a few halfway houses in New Jersey for recovering alcoholic women, Mrs. Wilson's (also known as ALFRE meaning "alcohol free") offers renewal of self-esteem, learning coping skills and developing employment options. Volunteer opportunities include doing yard work in the spring.  If interested in helping, please get in touch with either Daria (PCM liaison) or director, CJ Meenan, 973-540-0116.

Mrs. Wilson's, has been located in Morristown for over 36 years. Co-founders of this private, nonprofit agency saw the need for a structured residence for women in the early stages of recovery from substance abuse. Named for Lois Wilson, wife of Alcoholics Anonymous co-founder Bill Wilson, the Victorian 14-bed residential halfway house is a substance abuse treatment facility licensed by the State of New Jersey.  The women are provided the discipline, guidance and support they need as they learn to live without alcohol and drugs.  Stays average from six to eight months.

There are three main components of the treatment program:

Counseling

Each resident receives individual and group counseling to address the issues of her addiction as well as education about the disease of addiction. Family members also receive family group counseling and individual family sessions as needed.

Life Skills

Developing responsibility and improving self-esteem are goals underlying each woman's treatment plan. Each resident is expected to find and maintain full-time employment in the community. Regardless of funding sources, they are expected to contribute $125 per day toward the cost of their room, board and treatment, perform household chores, help with cooking for themselves and the other residents, and participate in governing of the household.

12-Step Groups

The principles of the 12-step model form the basis of Mrs. Wilson's recovery plan. All residents are expected to become active and participate in the local 12-step communities.

We applaud Mrs. Wilson's for the ongoing service this agency provides to our community and state.
